Ultrasound Abdomen
An ultrasound scan of the organs in your abdomen.
What it measures
The liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas and other abdominal organs.
Why it is ordered
To investigate abdominal pain, stones, or organ problems.
How to prepare
Fasting for 6–8 hours is often advised; a full bladder may be needed.
What happens during the test
A probe with gel is moved over the abdomen to capture images.
What abnormal results may mean
Findings such as stones, cysts or organ changes are interpreted by a radiologist.
